A snapshot of my freelance work in museums and galleries –>
British Library | Winston Churchill Memorial Trust | Berlin Museum for Natural History | National Gallery | Wellcome Collection | Migration Museum Project | Museum Detox | London Transport Museum | Museums Showoff
BRITISH LIBRARY –> Sound Curator
Working with the Library’s Windrush exhibition; Windrush; Songs in a Strange Land, to curate site-specific sound tours inspired by the Winrush generation’s stories of home. My role included selecting and editing oral history interviews, and creating and leading tours for different groups of visitors, including those directly affected by the ongoing Windrush scandals.
Wellcome Collection –> Educator
Leading Study Days with young people exploring body image, using the Wellcome’s collections as inspiration.
WINSTON CHURCHILL MEMORIAL TRUST –> Fellow
In 2015, I was awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust travel fellowship to explore museum diversity and community engagement.
Museums are…? looks at the different ways in which museums, galleries and other heritage institutions engage a variety of audiences. How do these spaces actively encourage people who may not be typical museum-goers? What are the barriers keeping people away, and what can be done about it? Over 6 weeks, I interviewed museum and gallery staff in San Francisco, Oakland, Santa Cruz, Berlin, Cologne, Amsterdam and The Hague, as well as collecting thoughts and opinions from the general public in these cities.
BERLIN NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM –> Researcher
Worked as a researcher at the Natural History Museum in Berlin looking at science education in children and young adults. I also initiated the museum’s first Instagram takeover.
MIGRATION MUSEUM –> Researcher
Researcher for the No Turning Back: Seven Migration Moments That Changed Britain exhibition at the Migration Museum Project in 2017. Check it out here.
NATIONAL GALLERY –> Young Producer
As one of the first Young Producers at the National Gallery, I researched, created and delivered Ten Minute Talks, including spoken word responses to Crivelli and David Teniers . I was also part of a team that worked with associate artist, George Shaw, to lead the Gallery’s first ever late night event as part of Art Night 2016.
LONDON TRANSPORT MUSEUM –> Workshop Designer
Designed and delivered social change workshops for Transport for London’s largest youth project, Youth Travel Ambassadors. From 2015-16 I worked with over 120 students across London exploring themes including sexual harassment, anti-social behaviour and the environment.
