Since the world is on fiyah, I've made The Salon zine available to read online or download for free from my website. Hope it brings some of you some joy! I'm proud of this little book, it celebrates hair and heritage with words of home, childhood and nostalgia from people including @dawnbutlerbrent @oteghauwagba and @sonofatutu , interviews with @projectembrace, thoughts on Locs from @mayowasworld and @dfordarkoa (thank you!) and even a short story about post apocalyptic Peckham - bit close to the bone now eh 🤷🏿‍♀️. I had a really nice time chatting with @swingstuffpodcast about hair, heritage, hating on archaeology and loving dance. Check it out 🥰 ・・・ “It holds quite an interesting place in between what we used to call ‘tangible intangible heritage’. So it's something that you can touch, but it's also something that represents culture intangibly so you can't really like put your finger on what it is. And it's something that has been quite present in my life since I was born.” . This month on the podcast, I am joined by the wonderful Korantema Anyimadu. Korantema is a dancer and independent curator with a background in heritage and the arts, and has most recently been working on her project ‘Black Hair Stories’. . If you pop down to Walthamstow to the @morrisgallery you can now get a copy of The Salon zine in the bookshop AND while you’re there, see the first solo UK exhibition of @kehindewiley powerful portraits of Black women. Kehinde Wiley’s backgrounds are inspired by Morris’ prints and the series is a response to the 1892 feminist text, the Yellow Wallpaper by Gilman.
